From the recording You've Got A Friend
When Carole King shopped this song to more than a dozen labels only to face rejection she didn't give up. After James Taylor vouched for her, Columbia finally signed her after trying to convince her to sell it to other artists as she had her previous hits. Within a couple weeks it was #1 on Billboard Charts, six months later James Taylor relased it and IT too became #1 almost instantaneously. Since the early 70's Carole King's Tapestry album has remained a #1 selling album.

You've Got A Friend
Carole King/ Anna Fisher c.1971Screen Gems- Columbia Music, Inc. NY/ © 1996 MOLIN MUSIC
When you're down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night
CHORUS :
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, you've got a friend
If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old North wind begins to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud
And soon you'll hear me knocking at your door
(CHORUS)
Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you and desert you
They'll take your soul if you let them
Oh but don't you let them
(CHORUS)
